Our department is in the midst of confusion, within in it's self on lateral hire FTEP programs. There is no set program for them. We use the normal program and have to fast pace them through it. Even if you hire an in state lateral, the program can be confusing and frustrating for them. To make it worse, is when an FTO has an out of state lateral, whom the department wants to fast track through the normal program. I believe we are doing more harm than good. The become frustrated with us, the FTO, because we are going through basic things they all ready know. We know as FTO's we have make sure we cover everything in the manual. Our department can't decide which FTEP manual they want to use, and have take peices of one program manual and put it in with another program manual, which is very frustrating both the trainee lateral and the FTO. Does anyone have a FTEP program designed specifically for lateral officers? And which FTEP program is the best?

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT POINT, BEING AN FTO FOR A FEW YEARS NOW, I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THE GAP, OR LACK OF INSTRUCTION WHEN DEALING WITH A LATERAL TRANSFER. QUITE FRANKLY I DON'T THINK MANY DEPARTMENT AKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EXISTS.
