I was reading Dave Spaulding’s Firearms column in the October 2007 issue of Law Officer Magazine, when I ran into an ingenious target system.
The target, Hard Head Ted, is a metal reactive target that can easily be combined with the Tac-Man 3D torso to create a realistic threat for officers in firearms training. What I think is great about this target is that it presents a realistic-looking threat, and it will fall down if, and only if, shots are delivered to vital areas: head, heart/lungs, or spine.
These targets are the invention of John Hearne, the owner of DVC Targets. Hearne, a federal law enforcement officer, serves his agency as a field training officer, firearms instructor, and armorer. The goal of DVC Targets is “…to get good people home at the end of their tour, the end of their shift, or the end of their day.” I think these targets can be a valuable addition to a department’s firearms training, and in turn help accomplish that goal.
The cost of these targets is modest; pricing starts at only $195.
Stay safe!
