Caroline,

Thanks for stopping by. I'm afraid that it seems you fail to grasp the situation.

Predators, people who would just as likely gut you with a knife and piss on your body, are not being kept in prison. These people are routinely released back into society where they continue to commit violent crimes. These predators rob, molest, rape and/or kill fathers, mothers, children, siblings and neighbors with alarming frequency.

Your comparison of hardened criminals with speeders shows how far disconnected with reality you are.

If you have an actual interest in the truth about the criminal justice system, and not just spouting something you picked up in some college class or on a mid-morning talk show, walk down to your local police department and get involved. Spend a few shifts riding with patrol officers and be prepared to learn. Once you spend about four shifts riding with officers on a Friday night, then let me know if speeders are the "real killers" in society.

Did you ever think that maybe jail time for drug and alcohol related issues actually makes your jobs more difficult. The inmates come out with records (with as many charges as possible thrown at them) and experiences that make them less employable (try getting into Walmart with any record). For those with addiction, it is highly likely they will use again and using (even alcohol) is a crime.
Frankly I think speeders are more dangerous and irresponsible with the lives of others than a passed out DIP. But you disagree, because there is one set of laws for those who play judge and jury and another for us.
Considering how many times I've almost been hit by cars, I say lock up the speeders and those who daily threaten our lives. Maybe then you can save the 1000's of pedestrians who are killed each year.

I work in corrections.

Rehabing or "corrections" does not work all the time. It is a noble thing to do, but you are right, how do you rehab someone with 56 priors? Do we think 57 is the lucky number for him?

Prayers for the officer, I hope she recovers fully. Prayers for all of you guys out there as well. I can't imagine the frustration of arresting a guy time after time, but you guys do a hell of a job.
