Ruger Recalls LCP Pistols: Gun May Discharge When Dropped

October 30th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Sturm, Ruger & Co. announced a recall of their LCP .380 pistols due to a problem with the guns possibly discharging if dropped on a hard surface.  Ruger’s recall program will upgrade the hammer assembly of your LCP firearm free of charge and return the gun to you with a new magazine.

For all of you that own and carry a Ruger LCP .380 for back-up or off duty carry, you need to check out this article about the LCP recall for more information.

I have an LCP. I have confidence in it. Ruger customer service is exemplary. When I asked for the updated hold-back, they sent it to me at no charge. The LCP was the first gun I ever worked on, but I was able to make the change without much difficulty even though it is taken apart considerably to make the exchange.

The fact that they initiated a recall when it is not clear that they were required to do so increases my admiration for the company.

Just another reason why no one should ever buy a Ruger semi-auto.

They’re great at revolvers, but they suck at pistols.

Sheesh. I can’t believe people bashing Ruger for a recall, what with all the lawsuit-happy people around. So a couple of people drop their guns on concrete and they go off. Don’t you know that ANY gun can go off, if it is dropped with a cartridge in the chamber? Jar a primer hard enough, and it will detonate. Why do you think they tell us to be so careful handling primers??
