“Tactical Civility is the safest and most powerful way to interact with others, particularly with those who may be potentially dangerous or explosive,” says Dr. George Thompson, founder of Verbal Judo.

Thompson recently published the article “Tactical Civility: The path of power and safety,” which describes how the conscious use of polite behavior can benefit the police officer in more ways than just staying out of internal affairs.

Thompson illustrates how the use of civility, combined with officer safety tactics, can provide a large advantage to the officer who must go “hands on” with a suspect.

I urge you to read his article over at PoliceOne. Also, if you have never attended his Verbal Judo training, I highly recommend it. It is not “touchy-feely” training; it is tactically driven communication that really works. I have used it successfully for years.

Stay safe!
