Springfield Armory is releasing several tease announcements revealing a new ergonomic grip for their XD polymer pistols. When the XD pistols came to the market in 2001 they quickly found favor by many shooters for their features, reasonable price, and unique grip ergonomics and texture.
Though some may find the XD grips too aggressive, many shooters appreciate the feature for stabilizing the shooter’s hand during firing. Having a fairly standard mild texture on the sides, the XD front and back straps stand out for their bold square textures. Those aggressive squares take up even more space on the smaller XDm and XDs series grips.
Springfield is also famous for giving buyers a great stash of Springfield accessories with each purchase. Where some manufacturers only give the buyer a box and maybe a spare magazine, Springfield has long included a hard case, holster, 3 magazines, and a magazine holster with each purchase. In addition, there is an optional stainless steel slide, and an olive drab receiver.
As you can see from the announcement photo below it appears that the trademark aggressive grip is gone, and a more flat but aggressive texture surface is in. It’s also possible that the grip will take on an advanced shape and contour for ergonomics.
We are quickly approaching the 2015 SHOT Show in January. It will be interesting to see if Springfield waits until the Show to complete its release, or if they will wet the appetites of Springfield fans with an early release. Stay tuned as we cover this Springfield announcement and many more interesting developments with our SHOT Show coverage. The announcements so far only say XD, so we’ll have to see if Springfield is going to offer this new grip for the XDm and XDs series as well as the original series.
