While at the Industry Day at the Range event during SHOT Show this year I happened to meet Ryan Smith, the Executive Director of Spirit of Blue Foundation. When Ryan realized who we were and who we serve he wanted to pass on information that could benefit your department in the way of grant funds for critical equipment or needs.
The Spirit of Blue Foundation has been receiving individual and corporate donations, along with partnering with industry manufacturers for 5 years. As a result 39 grants in 19 states have been awarded, with over $200,000 going towards the purchase in law enforcement grants have been awarded to police departments for critical gear purchases.
Spirit of Blue Foundation
The Spirit of Blue Foundation is based out of Chicago, Illinois and is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to enhancing officer safety, public awareness, and fulfilling safety equipment and training needs. Since the Spirit of Blue Foundation is a non-profit organization, donations to the Foundation to be tax-deductible. The first public safety grant of 2016 was to help pay for a new K-9 in Beaverton, Oregon. For a full list of grant recipients click here.
Ryan Smith writes:
“We think that our work would be of particular interest to your readership at BlueSheepdog.com, especially so your readers can enroll their agencies in our database for grant consideration. There might also be some ways for BlueSheepdog.com to help us promote some of our programs throughout the year (like our holiday wreath sale), but mostly I think it would just be good for your readers to hear about an organization that gives back into the LE community and about our sponsors who are equally committed to the cause of Officer Safety.”

The Spirit of Blue Foundation is dedicated to providing precious resources for critical equipment that departments likely would not be able to purchase without these public safety grants. So far the Foundation has helped many agencies with vital equipment. We can definitely support that.
