Several sources are reporting the U.S. Army Rangers have selected the Glock 19 as their primary sidearm. This move would make the Rangers the third U.S. Special Forces group to select the Glock 19, following the Navy SEAL’s and Marine Special Operations (MARSOC). BlueSheepDog previously reported on the U.S. Navy SEAL’s and U.S. Marines Special Operations (MARSOC) selection of the Glock 19 as their primary handgun. It is reported the Army’s Delta Force carries the Glock 22. Previously the SEAL’s had mostly used the Sig Sauer P226, and the Marines had skirted with the MARSOC 1911.
This appears to be a greater, and more decisive move by the overall U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for a uniform handgun amongst the elite warriors. The selection of the Glock 19 by America’s elite forces strongly suggests the writing on the wall for the new U.S. Military sidearm, despite lengthy and costly handgun testing programs.
