Palm-to-Palm Handgun Transition

By Richard 3 Comments

Back in November, Aaron wrote an article on off-hand shooting.  A number of people left comments and sent in e-mails with some questions on the topic.  To help clarify one of the things mentioned in the article, Aaron recorded this short video to show how to transfer a handgun from one hand to another using a technique called the palm-to-palm transition.

Questions, comments and concerns can be left in the comments section below.  As with any firearms training technique, this may or may not work with your current tactics, department policies and existing training.  You have to evaluate on whether or not you want to use this technique.  It is not the only method of transferring a gun from hand to hand, but it is one way of getting it done.

Oh, never practice this with a loaded firearm.

More on the Comp-Tac Duty Holster

By Richard Leave a Comment

Comp-Tac Police Holster

While at Media Day, the field trip to the shooting range for the media at the SHOT Show, I got to see the new Comp Tac duty holster that was announced a few weeks back.  The holster is a hybrid of polymer and leather.  The scabbard portion is form fitted polymer with a leather strap for a traditional thumb snap retention.  There are no other retention devices built into the holster.

A-TACS LE Camo

A-TACS showed off their new LE Camo pattern at the 2013 SHOT Show last week.  The new pattern uses grays, blues and black to create a unique pattern that is supposed to work well with existing black duty gear the officers may already be using.

Back from SHOT Show

SHOT Show

As many of you know, I spent the last week at the annual SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting and Outdoors Trade Show) getting information on new guns, holsters, ammo and law enforcement gear.  While the introduction of new guns seemed a bit muted, there were definitely a lot of new things in the law enforcement area.

Heading to the SHOT Show

By Richard Leave a Comment

Greetings fellow gear junkies…

We’re headed to the annual SHOT Show.  Anything specific to law enforcement will be posted on BlueSheepdog, but general gun and shooting stuff from the SHOT Show will be posted at GunsHolstersAndGear.com.

The show officially starts Tuesday, but we’ve got range time scheduled for Monday and I might even be able to sneak into a military expo going on today.  I just have to hope the flight isn’t running too late!

Comp-Tac Level 2 Duty Holster

By Richard 1 Comment

Long known for their concealed carry and competition holsters, Comp-Tac is now making a level 2 duty holster.  The holster is a hybrid design, using both kydex and leather in its construction.

Comp-Tac will be at Media Day ahead of the SHOT Show next week, and so will the BlueSheepdog crew.  I’ll try to get more information and photos for you then.

Important BlueCrew Announcement!

By Richard 3 Comments

Blue CrewBased on the feedback I got in a recent survey, I’ve made two important changes to the BlueCrew:

  • all memberships will be annual subscriptions only
  • the price has dropped by 66% to only $17/year

Guys – this is an incredible deal.  That $17 a year gets you discounts to more that a dozen trainers and gear suppliers for the entire year.  Want 25% off your next MilSpec Monkey order?  What about 20% off your next 5.11 purchase?  You more than make up your membership cost in just one training class at LifeLine or Safety Solutions Academy.

The BlueCrew membership subscriptions are what keeps this site up and running.  But, I’m not here with my hat in hand asking for donations.  I am offering serious savings in exchange for your hard-earned dollars.

One note:  you do not have to be a law enforcement officer to sign up for the BlueCrew.  We have always welcomed all citizens into our site, and you are part of what makes the BlueSheepdog an exceptional community.

If the membership makes sense for you, click here and sign up.  After paying, you get instant access to all of the discounts.

Thanks and stay safe!

-Richard

P.S.  Existing members check your e-mail for special upgrades I’ve done for you.  You guys have helped me get this far, and I am taking care of you also.

A-TACS LE Camo Pattern

A new camo pattern has been developed by A-TACS and will be introduced at the 2013 SHOT Show next week.  I’m guessing there are grays and blues in it.

New Streamlight Stinger LED

By Richard Leave a Comment

Streamlight Stinger Classic LED

Streamlight announced the re-introduction of the original Stinger flashlight with a all-new LED head.  This updated flashlight, called the Stinger Classic LED, is very bright, offering 390 lumens and 13,200 candela on the high level.

By way of comparison, the incredibly bright ProTac HL that I previously reviewed throws 600 lumens and 16,000 candela.  So, the new Stinger Classic LED will be slightly dimmer (390 lumens is still extremely bright) but will be rechargeable unlike the CR123 driven ProTac HL.

Blinded by the Light: Sightmark H2000 Review

By Richard 4 Comments

Sightmark H2000 flashlight review

When I read about the Sightmark 2000 lumen flashlight, I was dumbfounded.  How could anyone pack that much juice into a handheld light?  Fortunately for me, Sightmark was willing to send on to me for review.

The Sightmark H2000 is a hand-held flashlight, suitable also for mounting on a firearm.  It has a variety of features and is said to be perfect for “shooting, hunting [and] tactical [applications.]”  I wanted to know if it was any good for police work.
