blackhawk_winnerCongratulations to Lee B. of Charlotte, NC for winning the $50 gift certificate from BLACKHAWK!

Lee said:

I used a Blackhawk Serpa CQC holster and magazine pouches to help me win first place in the Marksman Classification at the 2010 SC State IDPA Championship – Stock Service Pistol Division. Pictured is me at the 2010 NC State IDPA Championship wearing the Blackhawk Serpa CQC and magazine pouches. In addition to the practical shooting sports, I depend upon these products on a daily basis.

Thanks to all who participated!

The US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) published its opinion in Berghuis v. Thompkins on Tuesday, stating that invoking the right to remain silent requires the suspect to make an actual announcement that he does not want to speak to the police.

The right to remain silent is a major portion of the Miranda decision, as is the right to counsel.  The court, clarifying the silence aspect of Miranda, followed their previous thinking which holds that the suspect must make a request for counsel before he is considered to have ‘invoked.’

Curiously, the decision was a narrow 5-4, even though the case seemed fairly straightforward.  The latest SCOTUS appointee, Justice Sotomayor, wrote the opinion for the minority.

Revolver Case for iPhone

Posted by: Richard | Comments (1)

revolver_iphone_02aIn the ‘What a great way to get yourself shot’ category comes the Revolver iPhone case.  Made to look like a revolver, the instructions for making this iPhone case were posted over at Thingiverse.

In a high-stress situation, vision is one of the first things impaired by the sympathetic nervous system discharge.  Add in lack of time to analyze the object, low light, etc. and it is a recipe for disaster.  Of course, when someone gets shot with this thing, everyone will wonder why the cops killed some ‘innocent’ person who was just trying to surf the ‘net.

I’m not about to suggest a government ban on such things, but common sense should dictate to leave such things at home.

Police officers have many chances to join professional organizations, yet most cops don’t belong to any.  So, here are a few of the many law enforcement organizations you can join to get training, expand your networking, and improve your game.

International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) is the largest trainers’ association in law enforcement.  ILEETA is a fantastic resource for anyone involved in criminal justice education and training.  Members include instructors from all over the globe.  ILEETA has a large on-line library of training and reference materials, access to discounted liability insurance for members, and an amazing annual training conference to name just a few of their benefits.

The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) is the premier organization by and for law enforcement tactical officers (SWAT, TEC, etc.)  Current membership includes more than 1600 teams, and more than 30,000 officers worldwide.  The NTOA is an amazing wealth of information.  The NTOA has a library of training materials, product reviews, and an excellent magazine.  Additionally, the NTOA offers consulting services for agencies.  For example, an after-action report they compiled for the Cobb County (GA) Police Department after a 1999 incident was exceptional.

Want a $50 gift certificate for BLACKHAWK! products?

blackhawk-logo1Until my recent trip to the headquarters of BLACKHAWK! in Norfolk, VA, I did not own any of their clothing or gear.  After having the chance to put the gear through some testing, I am extremely impressed by the quality of their products, and I have since purchased a bunch of BLACKHAWK! goodies.

Unlike me, you have probably been using BLACKHAWK! gear for a while.  So, through June 30, 2010, send me your best photo(s) or story of you using BLACKHAWK! clothing or gear.  One photo or story will be selected to win a $50 gift certificate.  Include your name, address, phone number, and your story or photo.  If submitting a photo, please include a description.

By submitting, you agree to allow BlueSheepdog.com to publish your photo(s) and/or story on the website (I’ll remove specific personal details).  Send submissions to BLACKHAWK@BlueSheepdog.com.  There are not any hidden strings, mailing lists, spam or other “stuff” associated with this giveaway.  Only the winner’s information is forwarded to BLACKHAWK!
