This section is devoted to listing training classes that your agencies are hosting. If you have a training course for police officers coming up, please e-mail me, and I will add it to the list. Include a course title, description, class cost, and who the officers can contact for more information or registration.

The classes need to be law enforcement related, but can cover anything a patrol officer or investigator may benefit from. Topics such as officer safety, firearms, drug interdiction, SWAT operations, active shooters, EDPs, interview techniques, field training, and the like are all welcome additions to the page.

June 26-29, 2008: LFI-I (Harrisburg, PA)

This is the first in a series, and the original, firearms course taught by Massad Ayoob through his Lethal Force Institute. This course teaches critical decision making, the legal justifications for the use of force, the psychological implications of the use of force, and the tactics of real-world shooting. June 28-29, 2008: Rifle Level III: Close Quarters Carbine (Onalaska, WA)

The third level of rifle/carbine training offered by the Firearms Academy of Seattle centers on using the .223 semi-auto carbine for close range encounters: 3 to 25 yards. Subject matter includes movement, moving targets, 360-degree awareness and target engagement, along with multiple targets, low-light shooting, transition to handgun and hostage rescue concerns. July 8-10, 2008: Tactical Command Program (Chantilly, VA)

This program is designed to provide commanders with realistic guidelines and practical exercises to prepare for and enhance their command of Special Weapons and Tactics teams. Hands-on training will allow tactical commanders the opportunity to formulate tactical team policy, plan the execution of high-risk search and arrest warrants, manage command post operations, legal and ethical decision making, and tactical applications on emergency response operations. An emphasis will be placed on legal updates for tactical team management to include the relationship between the selection and training requirements of tactical team personnel, and departmental liability.

July 19-20, 2008: Rifle, Level II: Tactical Rifle (Onalaska, WA)

Level Two Rifle is geared for the patrol officer or armed citizen wanting to increase proficiency with the use of the semi-auto rifle/carbine. Instruction includes use of cover, search techniques, multiple targets, rapid fire, long range shooting (out to 200 yards), transition to pistol, malfunction clearing and speed reloading, moving and shooting and shooting on moving targets, along with use of the rifle in low light environments.

Pistol caliber carbines are NOT suitable for this class. We highly recommend a .223 caliber rifle of the AR-15 configuration, though semi-auto rifles of other make have done well in our rifle training. Combat type of scope such as the ACOG is acceptable, along with iron sights, of course. Iron sights do not have a disadvantage in this course. Tuition is $275.00. Level I Rifle is a 1-day training course covering a broad range of topics dealing with general rifle or carbine use. Designed for the student who has little or no experience using rifles or carbines, training starts at the beginning with rifle maintenance and cleaning, basic rifle marksmanship principles, sighting in and establishing a “zero” for your rifle. Precision Rifle I offers two intense days of training and practice in use of the scoped, centerfire, MOA-accurate rifle with distances varying from 35 to 300 yards. Students enrolling in course should be completely familiar with their rifles, and come to class with a 100-yard zero established. Curriculum includes rifle marksmanship principles, field positions including prone, sitting, kneeling and standing (with or without sling), use of cover/camouflage exercises, engaging moving targets, and use of the FAS Marksman’s Tower for tactical exercises.

This is a two-day, 20+ hour immersion course. Training proceeds well into Saturday night to afford students the uncommon experience of rifle night fire. September 27, 2008: Rifle, Level I (Onalaska, WA)

Level I Rifle is a 1-day training course covering a broad range of topics dealing with general rifle or carbine use. Designed for the student who has little or no experience using rifles or carbines, training starts at the beginning with rifle maintenance and cleaning, basic rifle marksmanship principles, sighting in and establishing a “zero” for your rifle. Then, after students are comfortable with the operation of their rifles and are sighted in, we will progress into different shooting positions and targets set at varying distances. An entire course addressing force-on-force training, along with live-fire scenarios. The first day of training centers around live-fire exercises, while the second day addresses force-on-force training using non-lethal training weapons (provided). This course goes as far as you can safely go on a square range with live-fire pistols. The dynamic curriculum surpasses the traditonal handgun methods commonly taught in most institutions and focuses of the use of the pistol in aggressive close range applications likely in individual street encounters.

October 4-5, 2008: Rifle, Level II: Tactical Rifle (Onalaska, WA)

Level Two Rifle is geared for the patrol officer or armed citizen wanting to increase proficiency with the use of the semi-auto rifle/carbine. Instruction includes use of cover, search techniques, multiple targets, rapid fire, long range shooting (out to 200 yards), transition to pistol, malfunction clearing and speed reloading, moving and shooting and shooting on moving targets, along with use of the rifle in low light environments.

Pistol caliber carbines are NOT suitable for this class. We highly recommend a .223 caliber rifle of the AR-15 configuration, though semi-auto rifles of other make have done well in our rifle training. Combat type of scope such as the ACOG is acceptable, along with iron sights, of course. Iron sights do not have a disadvantage in this course. Tuition is $275.00.
