MagPod For PMags

Magpul Industries has come a long way from the original Magpul USGI magazine floor plate adapter. Today they are one of the most recognized names in firearm, and magazine accessories for the AR-15, as well as other rifles and pistols. Their products have been loosely copied ever since the Magpul, and iconic PMag, took the market by storm. One of those products is the MagPod for PMags.

MagPod is a part of RSR Group out of Winer Park, Florida, and is designed to replace the standard PMag floor plate to  provide a horizontal balance point. In essence, the MagPod creates a monopod for your AR-15 using your existing Magpul PMags. This actually is a great idea and product for shooting the AR-15 from prone.

MagPod for PMags

The MagPod is a patent-pending over-molded Santoprene replacement base-plate for standard Magpul PMags. Up until recently the M1 & M2 versions were covered, but now MagPod is testing a version for the PMag M3 (the latest PMag version). In addition, the newer MagPod’s will be available in Flat Dark Earth (FDE). There are also options with stippled side plates for extra grip during magazine extractions.

This attachment has a front foot, that along with a shorter rear foot, gives a balanced horizontal base. Since the pressure on the magazine is now balanced, the chance of the magazine becoming dislodged and causing a misfeed is greatly reduced. The MagPod also makes shooting from the prone position easier. With a solid magazine base, a shooter can avoid the pivot movement common from standard angled magazines.

Prone position is often considered the most stable shooting position due to the shooter’s ability to have multiple points of contact with the ground. The one problem was the long, curved magazine causing pivot. The MagPod appears to solve that problem and complete the balanced prone position for the AR-15.

The addition of the MagPod does not produce any obstructions to magazine draws from Velcro, open-faced, Fast Mags, and similar pouches. The bungy cord pouches will require extra attention when removing the bungy cord.

Shooting the AR-15 From Prone

One of the major considerations of shooting a rifle with a detachable magazine from prone, is the potential of the magazine coming into contact with the ground and dislodging enough to cause a misfeed. This is particularly true with the AR-15 that is often fired using 30-round magazines.

Our friends at TheFirearmBlog.com have been testing the MagPod V3 for several months now, and have reported that the V3 is now in production. The MagPod V3 is designed to be used with Magpul PMag M3 (the latest PMag version). Check out their review. It appears there are a lot of positive reviews for this product.
