Otis Technology has just announced the release of its Tactical Cleaning Kit. This compact cleaning kit is designed to provide the most applicable cleaning supplies for a variety of highly popular firearm calibers. According to Otis, this new cleaning kit is a descendant of the “Whole Kit and Caboodle” cleaning kits.

The benefit of the Tactical Cleaning Kit is a very compact cleaning kit that can be packed in a backpack, range bag, go-bag, or even pocket with ease, and yet still offers a significant amount of cleaning supplies for some of the most popular caliber firearms on the market. The “Tactical” name is very appropriate, considering the kit contains cleaning supplies for almost every firearm a police officer will field (pistol, rifle, and shotgun).

OTIS is one of the most well-respected firearms cleaning supplies companies on the market.

Overview

The OTIS Tactical Cleaning Kit is purpose-built for today’s law enforcement officer. Cleaning supplies include components for pistols, rifles, and shotgun.

This includes supplies for 9mm and .45 caliber handguns, .223 or 5.56mm patrol rifles, .308 or other .30 caliber sniper rifles, and of course the 12-gauge shotgun. This selection will cover a wide variety of firearms, and many agencies selections as well.

Some may question why OTIS left out a .40 caliber supplies considering there are many law enforcement agencies fielding pistols in what some have called “the law enforcement” caliber. Though true it is disappointing to have .40 caliber missing from the Tactical Cleaning Kit, the improvements in handgun ammunition dramatically improved the performance of 9mm.

Many agencies moving away from the snappier and slightly more expensive .40 caliber for the more controllable and cheaper 9mm. This includes the FBI and several Federal Agencies, as well as several State Police forces and major city police departments.

OTIS includes Memory Flex® cables, jags, brushes, and patches for the most popular calibers.

The Tactical Cleaning Kit comes in a very nice compact soft case made of nylon, and sealed with a quality zipper. Inside the case are (2) compartments, separated by a polymer centerpiece that flips up or down depending on the cleaning supplies desired. In the top portion of the case, the shooter will find caliber-specific jags, CLP, and the 12-gauge bore brush. On the bottom portion of the kit, the shooter has the OTIS bore brushes for rifle and pistol along with three Memory Flex pull-through cables and a chamber flag.

Each bore brush (other than the 12-gauge) and jag has a tailor-made slot to hold the item securely in place during carry or storage. The 12-gauge bore brush, Memory Flex pull-through cables, OTIS CLP, cleaning patches, and chamber flag are stored in stretch pockets on the top and bottom lids.

The Memory Flex pull-through cable system is made of aircraft-grade aluminum cables, and is ideal for compact carry and ease of cleaning. The system eliminates the undesirable effect of dragging loosened bore debris back into the chamber with traditional T-shaped bore cleaning brushes. Though I am a big fan of Bore-Snakes, once the brass brush embedded in the nylon fabric wears down the Bore-Snake is of limited use.

The OTIS Memory Flex system uses a pull-through system similar to the Hoppe’s BoreSnake but allows the user to switch out the appropriate bore brush as needed. The user simply twists a bore brush head onto the receiver end of the Memory Flex cable. If a bore brush wears out a replacement can be bought for about $1-2 each. This gives the Memory Flex system greater viability than a Bore-Snake. The two Memory Flex cables come in 8-inch size for handguns, a 30-inch size for patrol rifles and sniper rifles, and a 34-inch (5-40 thread) cable for calibers as small as .17.

Final Thoughts

OTIS Technologies produces some of the finest firearms cleaning supplies available on the market. Their quality, durability and dependability have made them a go-to source for many shooters and agencies.

Though OTIS products often have a slightly higher price than competitors, their quality and durability often far outlast the competition making their products highly sought after and competitive. The Tactical Cleaning Kit is an ideal kit for law enforcement officers fielding AR-style patrol rifles and 12-gauge shotguns. For many, the 9mm cleaning supplies will also be perfect for their selected 9mm pistols. BlueSheepdog highly recommends OTIS products, and this Tactical Cleaning Kit looks to be another winner from an industry leader.
