New Beretta PX4 Storm Finally Arrives!

The new Beretta PX4 Storm highlighted at last year’s SHOT Show has finally arrived and is shipping to dealers now. Called the We posted on the new Beretta PX4 last year, and many of our readers expressed interest in the upgrades being offered. At the time Ernest Langdon was in the Beretta booth showing off the enhanced PX4 Storm that he helped to design.

Originally we were told that shipment could begin as early as 2nd quarter of 2016. As we all know now, that did not happen. Unfortunately for Beretta and PX4 fans, the pistol just never seemed to materialize. Well I visited the Beretta booth again this year, and once again talked with Ernest Langdon. When I asked him about the new PX4 Storm from last year he smiled and pointed to a display counter. There was the upgraded PX4 Storm Compact Carry, with an official “New” label from Beretta. According to Langdon, the new PX4 Storms are being shipped to dealers now.

As we reported last year, the new PX4 Storm Compact Carry will feature several enhancements to improve overall fit and function. From polished internal controls for smoother slide action, to upgraded Talon grips, the new PX4 Storm Compact Carry is improved from the inside out.

Langdon was already busy with other interested visitors so I didn’t get to find out the background story as to why this upgraded PX4 Storm took so long to get to market. However, it is now official, including its own spot on Beretta USA’s website.

The gray slide, low profile controls, and Talon grips are great for the Compact Carry.

The new PX4 Storm should be extremely popular among Beretta fans, but will likely draw many concealed carry (CCW) shooters and new shooters as well. The polished internals, lower profile controls, and superior Talon grips have dramatically improved the feel of this pistol. From a much smoother action to greater grip control, I’m confident shooters will appreciate the enhancements.

Beretta is out front on another very important concept in pistol shooting. Instead of traditional 3-dot or post sights, the Beretta PX4 Storm Compact Carry will have an orange Ameriglo front sight. Though the rear sight is a plain U-notched post, the larger size and stark contrast of the Ameriglo front sight will surely help shooters come on target faster.

The one area that may be an uphill struggle for Beretta is the MSRP for the PX4 Storm Compact Carry. Where the original PX4 Storm suggested around a $650.00 price tag, the new Compact Carry will ask for $899.00. Considering the target market is likely CCW shooters, there are a lot of other options for much less cost. Will the enhancements be worth the added cost? Time will have to tell.

Final Thoughts

I’m really glad Beretta did not let the new Compact Carry fade away. 2016 was a really busy year in the firearms industry, and Beretta was extremely busy trying to keep the U.S. Army’s pistol contract. Though that contract did not go Beretta’s way, their modular advancements on the Model 92/M9 platform present many new sales opportunities.

Additionally, enhancing the PX4 Storm with the Compact Carry version could spark a new sales surge in the ever-increasing CCW market. One hurdle that must be cleared is the very high price being suggested by Beretta. If market forces can bring that price back down towards $700, look for the new PX4 Storm Compact Carry to make a healthy entrance and impact for Beretta.

I purchased the PX4 Compact Carry from The Sportsmans Outdoor Super Store for $719.99 delivered no sales tax. Which I thought was a pretty good price. I would not pay $899.99 for this gun. However after shooting about 300 rounds through it, I might reconsider. It shot soft and accurate. The stealth controls are a big improvement for EDC. The Talon grips fixed the smooth original grips on the Storm. They worked perfectly. Beretta has a winner thanks to Eric Langdon.

Thanks for the feedback Bill. The Compact Carry felt very nice while handling at SHOT Show, but I have not been able to shoot one yet. I agree the $900 price tag is too much, I’m glad to see distributors offering this Beretta for a more reasonable $700.
