New Plano Range Bags

By Aaron

Plano has been known for quality molded storage containers for a long time, but now they combined their storage containers with a convenient carry bag to make range days that much easier. The new X2 Range Bags provide a shooter the opportunity for a hands-free carry of their popular Ammo Boxes, with additional pockets on the Range Bag for extra magazines, cleaning supplies, or other items important to keep you shooting at the range.

The new Plano Range Bags combine a convenient carry bag with some of the popular Plano Ammo Boxes.

Plano’s line of Ammo Boxes are very popular due to their several great features:

  • Water-resistant O-ring seals
  • Sturdy box construction
  • Strong carry handle
  • Brass bail latches
  • Affordable price tags.

The Plano X2 Range Bags are available in three sizes and consist of a traditional Plano Ammo Box that sits in a removable form-fitting ballistic Nylon shell.  That Nylon bag comes with several specialized pockets and pouches to store critical range gear and supplies. The tops of the Ammo Boxes remain exposed for easy access to their contents and heavy-duty carry handles. A fully adjustable padded shoulder strap completes the package. The larger 1712 and 1612 models even come complete with a separate molded pistol case, which each holds in its perfectly sized front pocket.

The common features of all three X2 Range Bags are:

  • Padded shoulder strap
  • Cleated bottom to prevent sliding
  • Appropriate Plano Ammo Box Included (except 1312 X2).

The 1312 X2 Range Bag is the smallest in the X2 family and is designed for the concealed carry handgun shooter.  The large front zippered pocket is even big enough to carry a medium frame pistol. The bag’s creative back pocket provides additional storage and folds out to serve as a padded gun mat. There are large multi-purpose pockets on each end of the 1312 X2 Range bag – one fully zippered and the other with a Velcro flap.  These pockets will provide room for shooting accessories, tools, or personal protective gear. The outside of the large front pistol pocket is adorned with three specialized magazine pockets.

Shooters requiring more capacity will look to the medium-sized Model 1712 X2 Range Bag designed around the larger Plano 1712 Ammo Box. Roughly 2 inches longer, 2 inches wider and an inch-and-a-half deeper than the 1312, the 1712 X2 Range Bag provides additional space all around. The 1712 X2 also comes complete with a separate Plano Model 140300 Pistol Case, which accepts one large handgun or two smaller handguns and fits neatly inside the bag’s dedicated front pistol case sleeve. Additional storage space is found in the 1712 X2’s large right side pocket and expansive mesh back pocket. Two specialized magazine pockets are provided on the bag’s left side. Where the Model 1312 X2 only has a pocket for the handgun, the 1712 X2 actually provides a hard-plastic carrying case that fits into the bag.

I have Plano cases myself and have found them to be very durable. The Range Bag combination looks to make carrying all the goods to the range a bit easier. What are your thoughts or experiences?

I would love to purchase the Plano Range Bag 1712 X2 and I have no idea on how to?

I just got off the phone with Plano. The Range Bags are not currently available. They are in the process of finalizing arrangements with distributors, and are looking to deliver them to the market later this year – likely 2nd quarter. They will most likely deliver the range bags to already existing clients, so I would keep watching Wal-Mart, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, etc. in a few more weeks.
