Wilson Combat has just announced the release of their “Compact Carry” CQB 9mm pistol. Based upon the time-honored 1911 design, the Compact Carry was specifically designed to meet the exacting height and weight requirements for the Compact Carry Pistol (CCP) division of IDPA. The Wilson Combat Compact Carry meets that goal, and more. This is a serious pistol for serious shooters. Though I really don’t believe an officer would realistically use the Compact Carry for off-duty or back-up purposes, sometimes it is just nice to look at a masterpiece firearm.
Wilson Combat was created by Bill Wilson, a life-long competitive shooter and master gunsmith, nearly 40 years ago. Based in Berryville, Arkansas, Wilson Combat has risen to the highest levels of professional recognition for their designs, parts, and full builds of the famous Model 1911 handgun.

The Compact Carry has an extremely soft recoil impulse and, along with Wilson Combat ETM 9mm magazines, will run with the renowned reliability expected of Wilson Combat products. Despite it’s name, the Compact Carry is built on a Professional full size steel frame. This will provided the Compact Carry optimum service life and unmatched recoil control as well as the ability to use a full size magazine.
An Aluminum one-piece Bullet Proof magwell is used to enable easy reloads while still meeting the IDPA CCP Division’s weight specifications. The Compact Carry’s design allows for quick follow-up shots, with impressive accuracy. In addition, the Wilson Combat Compact Carry is just a really beautiful firearm.

Final Thoughts
The Wilson Combat Compact Carry is a beautiful masterpiece of 1911 manufacture. The Compact Carry is built to extremely tight tolerances, as can be seen from the picture above (especially the barrel to frame fit). For those who love the 1911, this is no doubt an eye catcher. Though chambered in 9mm instead of the original .45 ACP, the Compact Carry was purpose-built for competition, where lower recoil can mean fractions of seconds in follow-up shots.
With a price of $4k this awesome firearm is priced well above the typical threshold for a police officer. Despite this, it is sometimes nice to just look and dream at a fine piece of American hardware.
