Magpul Enhanced Front Sight Post

By Aaron

The Magpul MBUS Pro enhanced front sight post offers precision and standard sight widths.

Magpul continues to produce innovative ways to make common AR-15 accessories and parts better suited to the shooter’s needs. From the original Magpul designed to make magazine extraction from pouches quicker and easier, to the iconic Magpul PMAG that introduced the world to the polymer magazine revolution, Magpul does it right.

The newest addition to the Magpul inventory is the MBUS Pro Enhanced Front Sight Post. The original MBUS (Magpul Buck-Up Sights) were polymer and very popular. However, some shooters preferred true “iron” sights to ensure longevity and durability during heavy use. Magpul responded with the MBUS Pro, all steel front and rear folding sights. With the development of the MBUS Pro Enhanced Front Sight Post, Magpul is now providing precision shooter’s of the AR-15 an adjustable front sight post with a slimmer profile for better sighting. When shots are closer and more reflexive, the front sight post can be adjusted back to standard width.

The Enhanced Front Sight Post provides .040" profile for precision shooting, and the standard .060" profile for closer, reflexive shots.

Magpul Enhanced Front Sight Post Details

From Magpul’s Website:

The MBUS Pro Enhanced Front Sight Post is an upgrade for both the MBUS Pro and the MBUS Pro Offset Front Sights.
Featuring a rectangular cross-section, the MBUS Pro Enhanced Front Sight Post offers the user the option of a 0.040” Match profile for precision shooting or a standard 0.060” profile for visibility without changing posts.

Simply raise the post until it spins freely and rotate 90-degrees to present the other sight profile, than lower the post to its original position and confirm zero. The Match width side of the post has a marking dimple for easy identification during installation.

Precision machined of alloy steel, the sight post features a Mil-Spec manganese phosphate finish for corrosion resistance and abrasion protection.

Final Thoughts

I don’t expect officers in a running gunfight to be switching their front sight back and forth from match to standard. Hopefully they have a red dot sight with appropriate zero to handle most threat distances, and even if they are using the iron sights I would hope that their training would be sufficient enough to allow proper aiming in those tense situations.

However, this new front sight post does offer professional shooters and hunters a very nice enhancement to shooting with iron sights. When a target or animal can be up close or distant, it is nice to know that a simple lift, rotation, and drop can provide a front sight picture best suited for proper sight alignment. Having shot out to 300 meters with iron sights, I believe the slimmer profile of the Magpul MBUS Pro Enhanced Front Sight Post would have made targeting much easier. Especially when at longer distances the thicker front sight post can cover the entire target.
