New Walther PPS M2 Pistol!

By Aaron

The PPS pistol has been a popular brand for Walther, as a nice and slim, compact carry pistol. The PPQ M2 pistol has also achieved recognition for its excellent grip and features. The combination of the two designs in the PPS M2 pistol promises to deliver a concealed pistol, with great comfort and features.

Walther PPS M2 Pistol

The new Walther PPS M2 is designed to improve the features desired in a compact handgun. The slim profile, push button magazine release, smooth trigger pull and Carl Walther signature ergonomics deliver those features, and are housed in a frame that fits just about anyone.

The PPS M2 takes on the front slide serrations from the M2, as well as the very desirable and ergonomically designed grip. Interestingly, the PPS M2 grip design does not include the interchangeable back straps to modify grip size like the original PPS pistol. In addition, the PPS M2 does not come with an accessory Picatinny rail section like the original Walther PPS.

The pistol maintains the slim 1.0″ profile and overall size measurements of the original PPS, while dropping 0.4 ounces of weight. The PPS M2 will also come with (3) different sized magazines making PPS M2 a very viable CCW handgun. The magazine options are flush with the frame, a mid-size with (1) extra round, and a large magazine with (2) extra rounds. Each of the longer magazines has the textured base to seamlessly fit form and function of the PPS M2 grip.

In addition, the Walther PPS M2 will retain the chamber view port, and visible and tactile cocking indicator on the rear of the slide. This is a very nice feature to ensure the pistol is loaded, without having to perform a partial slide drawback. The PPS M2 will have a black Tenifer coated slide and barrel.

The low profile 3-dot sights, and the loaded chamber indicator are both great features.

It is interesting to see Walther advertising a Tenifer coating. This is the same coating that Glock had used from its inception, but changed about 5-6 years ago. The reason for the change was the process to make Tenifer creates cyanide as a by-product, and has been generally banned in both Europe and the U.S. Glock switched to a different coating (likely Melonite) that still produces the near-diamond hardness and protection, but does so without the cyanide by-product.

The PPS M2 will be available in 9mm and .40 S&W initially.

Walther Press Release

(FORT SMITH, Ark.) – New to the Walther line of personal protection pistols is the PPS M2, an innovative new 9mm pistol that sets the bar for ergonomics and comfort for concealed carry. The new PPS M2 is engineered for the concealed carry shooter looking for a slim 9mm that provides superior concealability while maintaining comfort and accuracy. The new PPS M2 is built to carry, measuring in at 1 inch wide, low profile and smooth features. This coupled with a new push button style magazine release for easy operation, highlights some of the changes from the Classic PPS to the new M2.

The new PPS M2 is equipped with a smooth, light 6.1 lb trigger pull, which improves control and accuracy. The PPS M2 can be the perfect fit for every shooter with Carl Walther signature ergonomics, that have become a staple in 21st Century Walther Arms. The PPS M2 is also available in an LE edition with phosphoric sights.

Adam Blalock, Walther Arms CEO stated, “I have been really excited about the PPS M2 since the beginning of its development. The PPS Classic has been my everyday carry gun for years. It’s a great gun and the idea of improving on the original was challenging … but our team has done it. The engineering enhancements and modifications that create the new M2 truly elevate this pistol into a class of its own.”

Adding the PPS M2 to the Walther handgun line is a prime example of Walther’s dedication to continued innovation and customer focus in the fast growing personal protection industry. The PPS M2 will be available in retail stores in early 2016. It will also be available to test at Industry Day at the Range at SHOT Show and viewing on the showroom floor during the show in Las Vegas, NV January 18th – 22nd.
