Sig Sauer Recalls MCX Carriage Assembly!

By Aaron

On December 22, 2016 Sig Sauer announced a recall of their MCX rifle carriage assemblies. According to Sig Sauer, extensive factory testing has indicated in very rare circumstances the current MCX might be able to fire unintentionally. Sig Sauer has currently only noted the problem with the .300 BLK version of the MCX, but has offered an upgraded carriage assembly to fix all effected MCX rifles . This upgrade will be offered for both 5.56mm and .300 BLK MCX versions.

Sig Sauer is one of the most respected firearms manufacturers in the world, and their products have been widely praised for quality, innovation, and safety. Any manufacturer of mechanical devices will occasionally run across a problem unforeseen or experienced in production. Sig Sauer has jumped on their responsibility to fix this problem, and their robust recall efforts exhibit the signs of a great leader in the firearms community.

Sig Sauer MCX

The MCX is the top of the line AR-15 variant being offered by Sig Sauer. The gas piston operating system is designed to allow the MCX to shoot cleaner and cooler than standard direct impingement system rifles. Features of the MCX include a monolithic keymod hand guard, enhanced folding back-up sights, and a folding stock to name a few. Though Sig Sauer produces the M400 and 556G2 rifles that more closely resemble a Mil-Spec AR-15, the MCX has always taken on a unique Sig appearance.

The recalled carriage assembly will affect certain serial numbered MCX rifles in both 5.56mm and .300 BLK. Be sure to read the press release below to determine if your MCX if effected, and if so, how to go about getting the replacement parts to ensure your MCX will operate properly.

The MCX is offered as an SBR option as well.

From Sig Sauer’s Press Release:

SIG SAUER – MCX Mandatory Carriage Assembly Replacement Program

SIG SAUER is conducting a mandatory replacement of the carriage assembly in SIG MCX rifles. SIG has found through extensive factory testing that in extremely rare instances, not reported in the field and extremely difficult to replicate, a condition may exist causing an unintended discharge. Failure to follow the loading procedures and basic rules of safe firearms handling outlined in the user’s manual has the potential to cause serious bodily harm or death. Although this has only been witnessed in 300 blackout, SIG has decided to upgrade all MCX models since the MCX is a modular platform and we want to ensure the quality and reliability of all products we manufacture.
